XCOM 2 Demo: A Promising Start with a Small Character Pool

The XCOM series has always been known for its intense action and strategic gameplay, and the latest installment, XCOM 2, promises to deliver more of the same. The demo has finally been released, and I've had the chance to play through it and get a feel for what's in store.

At first, I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to connect with the characters in XCOM 2, given that they're all new and unfamiliar. But as I started playing, I realized that the game does an excellent job of introducing you to your team members through the story missions. The demo features two tutorial missions, which are designed to teach you the basics of the game.

One thing that struck me right away was how much fun I had with the characters in XCOM 2. Each one has their own unique abilities and playstyles, which adds a lot of depth to the gameplay. For example, my veteran soldier, who is given for free from the first mission, proved himself to be quite useful on the battlefield. And my assault specialist, who was packing a shotgun, was able to take down multiple enemies with ease.

Of course, no XCOM game would be complete without some frustrating moments, and the demo is no exception. I had to roll my eyes at my sniper's missed shots on floaters, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of loss when my best guy went down in the second mission. But overall, the gameplay was engaging and challenging, and I found myself getting more and more into it as I progressed through the demo.

One thing that stood out to me about XCOM 2 is how well it balances its narrative with its gameplay. The story missions are designed to teach you the fundamentals of the game, but they also have a sense of urgency and importance to them. And when the demo ends abruptly after mission two, you're left feeling like you've been dropped into the midst of a much larger conflict.

Overall, I'm impressed with what I've seen from XCOM 2 so far. The character pool may be small at this point, but each character has their own unique personality and abilities that make them stand out. And the gameplay is fast-paced and action-packed, with plenty of opportunities for strategic decision-making. If you're a fan of the series or just looking for a new game to play, I'd definitely recommend checking out the demo and seeing what XCOM 2 has to offer.
